Life coaching vs Therapy
So, you've decided to take the big leap and get some help. Which should you focus on: getting a life coach or getting a therapist? Many have seen that these are at odds with each other. The American Counseling Association likens the two to be like step children. The truth is, they can work hand in hand.
Therapists are usually counselors or psychotherapists that have advanced degrees and state licensing. They often are long term sessions that dive into a person's past in order to uncover reasons why a person might have trauma or self destructive habits. Therapists often diagnose and determine pathologies that may be clinically treated.
Life coaches tend to focus on the present moment or in some cases look to achieve future goals and remove challenges from present day experiences. Life coaches focus on listening and mirroring a client's ideas and thoughts through conversation that leads the client to his or her own best decisions. Life coaches focus on empowerment of the client in each moment so they have the necessary tools to move forward without being blocked or stunted.
While both therapists and life coaches may work to uncover the conscious and subconscious mind, life coaches tend to be based in results and actions while therapists tend to be based on exploration and understanding the 'why' of behaviors.

Some notable life coaches (and also my favorite) are Martha Beck, author of Finding Your Own True North and Expecting Adam as well as the famous motivational speaker and author, Tony Robbins.
There are many motivational speakers that also fall into this category such as Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Zig Ziglar, Size Orman, Robert Kiyosaki and John Bradshaw. These are all people who have changed their lives and made it their life's purpose to help others also make radical changes to live their best lives ever.
